What changed
Of the seven peptide bulk substances reviewed by the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee on July 23-24, 2026, only emideltide, the delta sleep-inducing peptide known as DSIP, failed to win a recommendation. The committee voted 6 in favor, 7 against, with one abstention, on both the free base and acetate forms. FDA had evaluated emideltide for opioid withdrawal, chronic insomnia, and narcolepsy. Unlike most of the other reviewed peptides, DSIP has human clinical studies on file, but they date to the 1980s and 1990s, and FDA's briefing described the results as inconclusive and at best preliminary. Members who voted no cited the low quality of the efficacy evidence, poor characterization of the bulk drug substance, and the availability of approved therapies for the same uses. The negative vote is a recommendation, not a final rule, but FDA generally follows its advisory committees, so emideltide is unlikely to join the 503A Bulks List in the current cycle. That leaves DSIP where it was before the meeting: not FDA-approved, not eligible for 503A compounding, and available mainly through gray-market channels that carry their own quality and legal risks. A future nomination supported by modern, controlled evidence could bring the substance back for reconsideration. The other day-two substances fared better: Semax was recommended 8-5 and Epitalon 7-5, each with one abstention.
